Free Your Fade by Andrea Mowry

This shawl was created to be your favorite shawl pattern since it is made from relaxing garter stitch with engaging eyelet rows and endless color possibilities. It would be gorgeous knit up in one color, but you can just as easily use 20! The designer, Andrea Mowry, has extended the color melt sections for an even more cohesive fade, with easy instructions to add as many fade sections as you would like! The shawl is light weight and perfect year round when knit up in fingering weight yarn, but don’t let that stop you from knitting it up in any yarn weight you prefer to the size of your choosing!  

The possibilities are endless! This shawl can be knit using however many colors you want, with whatever yarn weight fits your fancy, to the size that fits you best! Free your fade, and make it your own with this adaptable pattern.

Please wash all of your skeins prior to starting your project to prevent color bleeding in the finished garment.

DESIGNER RECOMMENDED YARN: Twist Fingering by Republic of Wool (80 Merino Wool / 20% Nylon; 100g/400yds): 3 Skeins in the following colors: Metal Heart, Ripple, & Misfit

ALTERNATE YARN: Sock by Malabrigo (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 100g/440yds): 3 Skeins, 1 skein in each of 3 colors. Variegated kettle-dyed yarn from Uruguay with subtle to striking color shifts.  Silky soft merino wool in easy care superwash, too!

ALTERNATE YARN: La Jolla by Baah Yarn  (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 100g/400 yds): 3 Skeins, 1 skein in each color.  Fingering weight yarn hand dyed in California in a large array of colors.

DESIGNER RECOMMENDED YARN: Punta Cana by Qing Fibers  (100g/240yds): 3 Skeins, 1 of each color. Highly variegated colors in light, medium, dark work best.

ALTERNATE YARN: Sonoma by Baah Yarn (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 100g/234 yds): 3 Skeins, 1 of each color.  True DK weight yarn for a thicker, plusher shawl in a plethora of hand dyed colorways.

ALTERNATE YARN: Arroyo by Malabrigo (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 100g/335 yds): 3 Skeins, 1 of each color.  Light DK weight yarn is kettle-dyed in small batches.  Available in a multitude of tones and variegations.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Wingspan 84" x 19" at center

SKILL LEVEL: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate-Simple lace, eyelets, bias shawl shaping, color melting & Picot bind-off

NEEDLES: Size US 4 / m3.5m 32" circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge
