Knit a piece of the American Southwest with this new collection by Melanie Rice!  This garter stitch shawl is wored sideways from the right tip, adding whimsical short-row waves. Great for advancing knitters! 

Use the charts or the full written instructions. Suitable for sport or dk weight yarns; be sure to adjust your yarn requirements when making substitutions.  Pattern is written in American terminology.

DESIGNER RECOMMENDED YARN: Arroyo by Malabrigo (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 100g/335yds): 2 Skeins Main Color (MC), 1/2 Skein Color B & 1 MINI Skein Color C.  Shown in Volcan, Aquas, & Glitter.  Malabrigo is kettle-dyed in small batches to create subtle to highly variegated yarns.  Washable, wonderfully soft and bouncy Merino wool from Uruguay.

ALTERNATIVE YARN: Prairie Spun DK by Brown Sheep Co.  (100% USA Wool; 100g/256yds): 3 skeins MC, 1 Skein Color B & 1 MINI Skein Color C.  USA wool dyed in beautiful colors. PRE-ORDER now available in any color.  Please allow at least 7 business days for your pre-order to arrive at your location.

ALTERNATE YARN: O-Wash Sport by O-Wool (100% Washable Certified Organic Merino Wool; 100g/304 yds): 2 Skeins MC, 1/2 Skein Color B & 1 MINI Skein Color C.  Gentle processing with environmentally friendly procedures to prevent felting and create beautiful solid colorways. Milled & dyed in the USA from wonderfully soft merino wool.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 70” wingspan x 23” along centerline, after blocking without stretching
YARDAGE: 850-930 total yds of sport or DK weight yarn. 670 yds MC, 155 yd Color B & 31 yds Color C
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate - short rows

NEEDLES: Size US 6 / 4mm 32" circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge
OTHER TOOLS: Tapestry needle & optional pins for blocking
GAUGE: 20 stitches = 4" in garter stitch, after blocking without stretching. Gauge is not crucial for this project, but will affect yardage and finished size if different from above.
