Seven Sisters is found in the book By Hand: Making Communities - Lookbook No. 6 Blue Ridge Mountains. This pullover is worked in the round from the bottom up, with a mantle of stars decorating the circular yoke. The star motifs, worked in purls and traveling stitches, are adapted from a traditional Danish design cataloged by Vivian Hoxbro, but Sarah Pope chose to place them in a ring below the neckline, which is influenced by Shetland yoke patterning. The effect also reminds her of the American quilt pattern with clustered stars known as the Seven Stars or Seven Sisters--perhaps in reference to the Pleiades in Greek mythology and astronomy. The name seemed fitting in homage to quilting as an important art form in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Gift Kit includes By Hand - Lookbook No. 6 Blue RIdge Mountains (printed pattern inside) and selected yarn. For yarn winding services, click here.
