The Croft: Shetland Tweed by Sarah Hatton

West Yorkshire Spinners

3 items left

The rural agricultural community on the Shetland Islands have a long and prestigious history of rearing Britain’s most northerly native sheep breed and collecting its high-quality wool. This is part of a practice known as crofting, which is integral to the landscape, cultural heritage and social economy of the Shetland Islands. It bonds people and places in a unique way, preserving livelihoods and age old traditions.

West Yorkshire Spinners awaited the opportunity to work with Shetland Island Wool, a fiber world-renowned for its fineness, warmth and strength. WYS is delighted to be given the chance by Jamieson & Smith of Shetland to use this fantastic fleece.

The talented Sarah Hatton has designed this collection of garments and accessories that are practical yet distinctive. The garments combine traditional design elements with a contemporary edge that really showcase the unique color effect of the yarn.  With designs for both men & women, this collection features 14 patterns which work in harmony with the yarn to create something truly special.

The following patterns are included in the book.   Please click on any link to view a gift kit which includes this book with enough yarn to complete that pattern.  After all, pattern books should come with yarn!  (Coming Soon!)
